Roy Lee Henderson, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully at his residence in McRae, Georgia, on January 25, 2026, at the age of 78. Born on December 11, 1947, in Plant City, Florida, Roy spent his life dedicated to his family, work, and community, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and invaluable life lessons.

A funeral service will be held at the Chapel of Lowes Funeral Home on Friday, January 30, 2026, at 3:00 P.M. Rev. Alvin Lewis will officiate, assisted by Rev. Roswell Chapman and Rev. Spencer Fussell. Interment will take place at Milan City Cemetery.

Visitation with the family will be held at the Chapel on Friday, January 30, 2026, from 2:00 PM – 3:00 PM, one hour prior to the service.

Roy's life was one of commitment and joy, shared with his beloved wife of 57 years, Rachel Dover Henderson of McRae. Together, they built a family that included their children, Teresa (Bob) Attaway, Tammy (Doug) Williams, Clayton (Joy) Henderson, and Michael (Cindy) Henderson, all of Milan. Roy's pride and joy were his grandchildren, Brantley (Haley) Attaway, Gabe Attaway, Drew (Sarah) Williams, Daniel (Holly) Williams, Hannah Williams, Charles Alvin (Anna) Ashley, Lee Henderson, Caleb (Dayla) Henderson, Clay Henderson (Ryleigh Jones), Carlin (Claire) Henderson, Colby Henderson (Emma Hart), and Caroline Henderson. His great-grandchildren, Dutton and Decker Williams, Benji Ashley brought him immense happiness. He was anxiously awaiting the arrival of Alice Ann Williams, Magnolia Ann Attaway, and Hudson Roy Henderson, with this news bringing one of the last smiles to his face. Roy is also survived by his brothers, Rex (Arline) Henderson of Opp, Alabama, Ricky (Dorothy) Henderson of Helena, sister, Elaine (James) Rowell of Nicholls, sister-in-law, MaryEtta Spires of Abbeville, and brother-in-law, Elvin (Vivian) Dover of McRae. The family would like to express their gratitude for the devoted and compassionate care of Ann Patrick, whom Mr. Roy affectionately believed to be a Henderson and will forever be grateful for the compassionate care given by Kim Hall, Kayla Waters, and Katherine Sharpe with Georgia Hospice Care.

Roy was preceded in death by his parents, Cecil and Roselle Henderson, his father-in-law, Jim Dover and mother-in-law, Meda Dover; his infant brother, Billy Henderson; and his sister, Frances Runyon.

For 18 years, Roy was a dedicated employee at Western Auto, where he was known for his strong work ethic and amiable nature. He then served as a Maintenance Supervisor at the McRae Housing Authority, from which he retired. Roy's professional life was marked by his reliability and the respect he earned from colleagues and those he served in the community.

Roy's interests were as diverse as they were enriching. He was a man who believed in the importance of self-sufficiency, a value he instilled in his children, grandchildren, and a very special nephew. His lessons on life skills were delivered with humor and gentleness, making every teaching moment memorable and enjoyable.

Those who knew Roy will remember him for his quick wit and gentle demeanor. He had a knack for making people smile and could lighten any room with his presence. His sense of humor was a gift that he generously shared, ensuring that his legacy of laughter will live on.

Roy Henderson's life was a testament to the power of love, family, and hard work. As we say goodbye to this remarkable man, we celebrate the countless ways he enriched our lives. His memory will be treasured, his stories retold, and his teachings passed down through generations. Roy's life was a journey well-traveled, and he will be profoundly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
