Roy Joe Kouns, 81, of
Grayson, Kentucky, went home to his Lord on Friday, January 23, 2026, at his residence. He was born August 16, 1944, in Grayson, a son of the late Osborne "Bud" Daniel and Mable Marie Suttles Kouns.
In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death by a son, Jeffrey Earl Kouns; six brothers, Roy Daniel Kouns, Delmar Kouns, Charles "Square" Kouns, Jackie Kouns, Tom Kouns, and Robert Michael Kouns, Sr.; three sisters, Helen Kouns, Sylvia Kouns, and Phyllis Baker; three sisters-in-law, Toby Ann Jackson Kouns, Francie Kouns, and Pauline Kouns; and three brothers-in-law, Bob Clark, Steven Shelton, and Ray Glancy.
Joe was of the Christian faith. He was a man of steadfast work ethic. He was a farmer who loved what he did and took pride in his craft. He was a devoted family man who found joy in time spent with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. When not tending to the farm, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and riding his beloved horse, Golden Boy. To know Joe was to know a man who did things his own way.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Etta Clanin Kouns; three sons, Roy Daniel Kouns, Timothy Allen (Robin) Kouns, and Kenneth Bradley Kouns, all of Grayson; eight grandchildren, Joey (Verna), Vanessa, Brooke, Leaha, Haylee, Daniel, Shawna, and Brittani; six great-grandchildren, Maci, Lexi, Kayleigh, Blake, Raylon, and Krider; five sisters, Lillian Glancy, Eunice Clark, Deborah (David) Coldiron, Judy Shelton, and Rebecca Sue (David) Collier; three brothers, Bill Kouns, David (Shawn) Kouns, and Johnny (Lou) Kouns; two sisters-in-law, Ella Faye Kouns and Jane Kouns; and a host of extended family and friends who mourn his passing.
Following Joe's wishes a private graveside will be held in the Kouns Family Cemetery at a later date.
