Roy Russom

Roy Russom, age 90, of Wall Lake, IA, passed away on Thursday, August 21, 2025, as a result of injuries sustained in a tragic automobile accident. Roy Lee Russom was born on September 2, 1934, to parents Roy Filbert and Anna (Todd) Russom in Clarkton, MO. He grew up in Holcomb, MO, where he attended South Canaan Elementary School and later graduated with the class of 1952 from Holcomb High School. After graduation in 1953, Roy enlisted to serve his country in the United States Air Force. He was stationed at Scott Air Force Base in Illinois and in Reykjavik, Iceland until honorably discharged in 1957. Once he returned, Roy continued his education at the University of Missouri, graduating with a degree in Agriculture in 1961.

On December 9, 1961, Roy was united in marriage to the love of his life, Brenda Kay Renfro, in Columbia, MO. This union was blessed with three children: Randy, Michael, and Julie. Together they raised their children in Wall Lake, IA, where Roy was the owner and operator of Russom Hardware for 25 years. He also worked as the plant manager of Cookies Food Products. Roy was very involved in his community and served many years on the board of Twilight Acres Nursing Home. He also served on the board for Wall Lake School System, was on City Council, Chamber of Commerce, Wall Lake Farm Festival Committee, and was a Boy Scout leader for many years.

Roy was very involved within his church. He served many years as an Elder at Trinity United Presbyterian Church in Wall Lake, IA, and also was a member at the Lake City Union Church where his son, Randy, is pastor. Roy had several hobbies and enjoyed traveling, camping, and golfing. He always cooked pancakes for his family and was the designated griller at events. Many people will remember Roy for the love he had for his family.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 63 years Brenda Kay Russom of Wall Lake, IA; children: Randy (Cathy) Russom of Lake City, IA, Michael (Debra) Russom of Nevada, IA, Julie (Greg) Davis of Annapolis, MD; grandchildren: Hillary Russom (James Pelletier) of Sitka, AK, Aaron Russom of Nevada, IA, Abbey (Tadd) Kingsbury, of Colo, IA, Brandon (Faris) Russom of Nevada, IA, Tanner Davis of Washington DC; great grandchildren:Akira Pelletier of Sitka, AK , Xavier, Artemis, and Tiberius Kingsbury of Colo, IA, and Phaedra and Jupiter Russom of Nevada, IA; and sister Shelby Colbert of Campbell, MO.

Roy was preceded in death by his parents Roy Filbert and Anna Russom; sisters Barb Smith and Phylis Stidham, brother Philip Russom, brothers-in-law: Ursey Colbert and Earl Smith; two nieces and three nephews.

Memorials can be directed to the Lake City Union Church to assist with the Gathering and REACH Youth Groups.
