Roy Sumlin the beloved son of the late Joseph “Willie” Sumlin and Dorothy Pruitt Rhom Sumlin passed away Sunday January 18, 2026. He proudly served his country during the Vietnam War. The many scars left on these soldiers we will never know or understand. He is now at home with the Lord and while we that are left behind, grieve for him not that we will never see him again but that we will miss his presence in our lives.
He was preceded in death by his father-in-law Carl Lawing, sister-in-law Gwen Sumlin, brothers-in-law Jimmy “Tub” Washburn and Ray Melton, special uncles Tal Rumfelt and Everette Sumlin, his jeep riding buddy Ritchie Jenkins, his pastor Rev T B Deese and Sunday school teacher Jim Gallion at Macedonia Baptist Church where he was a member. He is survived by his wife Pat of 54 years, mother-in-law Mildred Lawing, brother Gene Sumlin (Mildred), sister Frances Melton, brothers-in-law David Lawing and Morris Lawing, sisters-in-law Janet Baird, Becky Washburn, Katherine Lawing, and his friend Byron Haynes.
A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, January 21, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. at Macedonia Baptist Church Cemetery.
