Roy Underwood

November 20, 1951 – September 13, 2025

Roy Underwood, 73, of Canton, Ohio, passed away on September 13, 2025.

Born on November 20, 1951, Roy lived a life defined by devotion-to his country, his work, and most of all, his family. A proud Navy veteran, he carried the discipline, loyalty, and strength of his service into every chapter of his life. Professionally, Roy spent his career in trucking and logistics, a field that reflected his steady commitment, strong work ethic, and the sense of responsibility that everyone who knew him came to admire.

Family was the center of Roy's world. He is survived by his beloved wife, Shirley, with whom he built a lifetime of love and partnership. Together they raised their children: Bryan (Kristin) Underwood and Tricia (Mike) Jones. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Shelley Underwood, whom he held in his heart always.

Roy's role as "Pop" to his grandchildren was one he cherished most deeply. He leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter with Derrick Underwood; Patrick (Gabby) Jones; Mackenzie Jones; Mika Jones (Keith Miller); Kody Faust (Chelsea Schmidt); Nicki Faust (Alex Bailey); and Savannah Nelson. His joy extended into another generation with his great-grandchildren: Jayce Underwood, Izzy and Luna Jones, Dominik and Maggie Mae Miller, and Cole and Clark Bailey.

He is also survived by his brother Rick (Bonnie) Underwood and many nieces and nephews, and preceded in death by his mother, Ethel Underwood; brothers Bill and Jim; and sisters Edie, Mary, Bea, and Rose.

Before illness slowed him, Roy embraced every opportunity to be with those he loved most. He was happiest during family vacations, backyard cookouts, and lively poker nights. Later in life, he discovered a passion for golf, enjoying both the game and the time it gave him to be outdoors and with friends. Every memory created with his family-especially his grandchildren-was a treasure to him.

Roy will be remembered for his quiet strength, his warm heart, and the way he lived with integrity and devotion. His legacy will live on in the values he instilled in his family, the laughter he shared, and the countless lives he touched along the way.

Friends may call on the family at Schneeberger-Oser Funeral Home, 2222 Fulton Road NW, Canton, on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

A celebration of life service, officiated by Pastor Amy Downard, will immediately follow at noon.

Interment will take place at Sunset Hills Burial Park with full military honors.

Roy's family finds comfort in knowing that though he is no longer with them, his love and spirit remain ever present.
