ROY L. WALLACE (85) passed onto another realm on Monday, March 6, 2023, after a brief period under hospice care at University Hospitals Parma Medical Center.
His life began on July 24, 1937, in
Uniontown, PA. to the late Raymond M. and Velma M. (nee Dean) Wallace. Deeply loved and respected as a husband and father, Roy is survived by his wife of 65 years, Doris C. along with their three sons - Gregory L., Brian C., and Shawn K. He has five brothers, one sister, and many nieces and nephews.
Roy loved his wife and children and cared and nurtured his sons every day of his life. He was a great father in teaching and guiding his sons along their life's journey. He taught them his love of sports first by being a little league coach, he mentored them in Boy Scouts, and imparted his love of golf onto his sons.
Roy loved all manners of sport, himself being an avid softball player as an adult and then transitioning into a meticulous golfer while volunteering as a ranger at several local courses. He would spend hours refining all manners of his game, from practicing his putting in his basement, to chipping practice at the local church fields for hours on end. Eventually, he would teach himself how to build his own clubs while constantly reworking and tweaking them for the perfect configuration. He was meticulous and detailed in every facet of his game as well as his life.
After a long and industrious career with the City of Cleveland's Public Utility Department, Roy decided to finally retire after 38 years of service. He was a respected executive within the organization with many admirers and colleagues whom he entrusted and trusted in his guidance and knowledge. Early in his career, he took it upon himself to learn the nuances of ledgered accounting along with being diligent in learning linguistics and vocabulary to further refine and uplift himself in the professional community. After retirement, he volunteered his time and talents to aid in the election boards by working polling stations and availed himself to a presidential election committee. He ran a tight ship and always ensured his integrity and that of his associates.
Roy, our dad, was a gentle, kind, and even-tempered individual. He always maintained a dignified and presentable appearance, nothing was out of place. He was always willing to lend a hand to help out with no expectation in return. He selflessly aided aging family members, several times a week, having to travel a significant distance, with no expectations to be of service to them. He also loved small animals, dogs and cats in particular, and cared for them without hesitation. In his spare time, he was a passionate reader who read multiple books per week. While being open to all genres of literature, spy thrillers were his favorites. Besides being an avid reader, he also loved to dabble in the kitchen. He made a great scalloped potato, traditional scones, and for himself, he loved to make pumpkin pies during the holidays. For several years, he made homemade chocolate treats which even to this day would stand up against some of the best commercial offerings. Challenging himself while refining it to perfection, he always strove to learn something new.
Deeply admired, he will be severely missed by his friends, family, and the community.
As he wished, there will be no viewing or services.
