Roy L. Wallace passed away peacefully on February 8, 2025. Roy was born on June 15, 1934, son of James Lawson Wallace and Olive Amada Wallace (nee Baker) in Baltimore, Maryland. He was a dedicated horse trainer for more than 45 years with a deep passion for the sport. Known for his unwavering love of horses and his expertise in training, Roy spent much of his life at the track, particularly at Pimlico Race Course, where he made a lasting impact on the racing community.
His devotion to the animals he trained was evident in every horse he worked with, treating each one with care, patience, and respect. His knowledge of the sport and his commitment to excellence earned him the admiration of fellow trainers, jockeys, and racing enthusiasts alike.
Beyond the racetrack, Dad will be remembered for his kind heart, his love of the sport, and the friendships he built over the years. His legacy lives on in the horses he trained and the lives he touched. His kindness, wisdom and warm spirit made him not only a great trainer but an even greater father, husband and friend.
Roy is survived by his wife Carolyn Wallace, his daughters Kimber Wallace and Lindy Laverdiere, his five grandchildren and many other nieces and nephews. Roy is predeceased by his beloved son, Jockey, James Lawson Wallace, II. No memorial service is planned at this time. Donations in his honor may be made to the Maryland Jockey Club at [email protected].
