Roseboro
Mr. Roy Vance Williams, 88, of Roseboro, went home to be with the Lord and Savior Monday, January 12, 2026 at Wake Med Hospital in Raleigh. He is preceded in death by his wife, Wanda Faye (Tensie) McLamb Williams; his parents Loster and Mazzie Janie McPhail Williams; his brother James Rufus “Rup” Williams; four sisters, Dixie Williams, Evon Linkous, Gertrude Williams, and Carolyn John; and his daughter, Brenda Williams.
Roy was born and raised in Sampson County, and he grew up farming with family and neighbors in the Hamburg and Rebel City areas. He graduated from Salemburg High School in 1956. One year later, he married his high school sweetheart, Wanda Faye McLamb (Tensie). He enlisted in the U.S. Navy, and then they grew their family for the next 16 years across the U.S. and Iceland. For 20 years, he served our country on multiple ships, achieving the rank of Master Chief. In 1977, he and Wanda then settled back home in Sampson County, and he went to Johnston Community College to learn clock, watch, and jewelry repair. He utilized his timepiece skills in the community and with various jewelers. He enjoyed motorcycling, gardening, bowling, and serving at Calvary Tabernacle PFWB Church. Roy was a dedicated disciple, leading faithfully as a deacon, and singing in Calvary’s choir for many decades. He loved attending local gospel “sings,” and was especially fond of the Master’s Quartet. He treasured his family, and he was passionate about old cars and new trucks. He also enjoyed traveling and meeting new people in his many adventures.
A funeral service will be at 3:00 PM on Friday, January 16, 2026 at Calvary Tabernacle PFWB Church with Reverend Marty Tew and Reverend Wayne Johnson officiating. The burial will follow at Calvary Tabernacle PFWB Church Cemetery with military honors.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM – 2:50 PM on Friday, January 16, 2026 at the church prior to the service.
He leaves to cherish his memory his son, Michael D. Williams (Rose); two daughters, Lynette Honeycutt (Stevie), Beverly Johnson (Billy); a son-in-law, Derek Wood; seven grandchildren, Cori Boes (Chris), Kelly Spell, Carly Williams, Casie Williams, Bailey Clark (Dane), Evan Johnson (Vanna), and Ethan Johnson; four great grandchildren, Grey Darion, Audrey Boes, Charlie Rose Lawson and Marley Faye Lawson; his sister, JoAnn Miller (Larry); and lifelong friend, Woodrow “Pud” Smith.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758516, Topeka, Kansas 66675.
