Roy Douglas Willis, age 79, passed away peacefully on December 19, 2025. He was born on November 18, 1946, to Oscar Elwa Willis and Hazel Beatrice Poston Willis.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday December 23, 2025, at Landmark Tabernacle with Rev. Gary Wiley and Rev. Mark Roberts Officiating. Visitation will take place from 9:00 a.m. until the service hour at Landmark Tabernacle. Serving as pallbearers are Chance Willis, Jason Murrell, Xander Willis, Hunter Willis, Tristun Martin and Anthony Collins. Honorary pallbearers will be Donald Ray, Richard, Ryker Laythe Brice and Ransom. An honor guard will be provided by the Alexandria Police Department.
Roy served in the United States Air Force before dedicating 30 years of honorable service as a police officer with the Alexandria Police Department. Known affectionately by his fellow officers and friends as "Ice Man," Roy earned respect for his steady demeanor, commitment to duty, and strong work ethic throughout his career. A devoted family man, Roy's greatest joy was the love he shared with his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He was well known for his quick wit and playful sense of humor, always ready with a joke or story that brought laughter to those around him. In his free time, Roy found peace working on his land and enjoying the simple pleasure of fishing.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar Elwa Willis and Hazel Beatrice Poston Willis.
Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife, Opal LaPrairie Willis; son, Chance Willis (Brandi) of Pineville; daughter, Tye Roberts (Mark) of Pineville; adopted daughter, Hilda Ledford of Cleveland, Tennessee; brothers, Donald Willis (Cindy) of Woodworth and Richard Willis (Carlene) of Chidester, Arkansas; sister, Peggy Lanza (Gary) of The Villages, Florida; grandchildren, Jason, Laken, Cassidy, Hunter, Dallas, Xander, Bay-Lea, Ransom, Sophie, Halo, Braze-Lynn, and Brittany; and great-grandchildren, Zoey, Ryker, Laythe, Hadleigh, Eden, Prestyn, Ace, Oaklynn, and Farah.
Roy Douglas Willis will be remembered for his dedication to service, his love for family, and the laughter he shared so freely. His legacy of loyalty, humor, and strength will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
