It is with a sad heart to announce the loss of Royal "Roy" Wayne Hansen, 80, of Boonville, IN, on June 29, 2024, at Transcendent North surrounded by family. Roy was born on January 30, 1944, to Walter and Margaret (Andersen) Hansen in Marinette, WI. At 18, Roy enlisted in the US Army serving for 6 years. Roy served in Saigon during the Vietnam War. Not wanting to return to the cold Wisconsin winters Roy settled in California. After retiring from GTE, Roy moved to Phoenix, Arizona where he worked for Qwest, splicing telephone cables. He and his wife Nita both worked to help repair the damage of Hurricane Katrina. He then moved on to the Lynnville/Boonville area where Roy lived for the last 20 years. An avid golfer, Roy enjoyed working at golf courses (so he could play for free), Alvey Signs, Lynnville Park and at Walmart in Boonville, IN where he ended his working career. As much as he grumbled about Walmart, he loved his co-workers and customers.
To know Roy was to love him and not an enemy to be made anywhere. He shared his love of golf with everyone, teaching his friends, children, nephews, grandchildren, and great grandchildren to play the sport. In his free time Roy enjoyed spending time with his beloved dog, Maya who worked hard holding down the carpet. When she became tired of holding down the carpet she'd move to the couch, holding down the couch and the carpet. Roy also enjoyed reading, watching every sport imaginable, the occasional trip to the casino, playing the lottery, rooting for his Green Bay Packers and his favorite team of all, the Fusion Softball Team. He was the biggest fan of his granddaughter, Kinley's Fusion-Jones "11 Softball family. If he couldn't get to the game, he followed it on the Game Changer app, and if it wasn't working, he expected inning by inning updates. He had a sense of humor like no other, and it was nothing for him to tell those teenagers to go play in traffic as he laughed.
Roy is survived by a son, Alex Hansen, and a daughter, Natalie (Ryan) Richmond from his marriage to Hilda Hassey de Hansen of Thousand Oaks, CA, a son, Scott Hansen and stepson Ryan (Sherrie) Marrone from his marriage to Kay Marrone-Hansen of Ridgecrest, CA., stepdaughter, Kris (Kenny) Gresham of Lynnville, IN and stepdaughter, Traci Emerson of Newburgh, IN from his marriage to Nita Hansen. Roy is survived by his grandchildren, Emily and Kaitlyn Richmond, Gavin and Olivia Marrone, Jessica (Chris) Kirk, Stefanie (Brian) Aker, and Kinley Gresham. Great-Grandchildren, Sawyer and Wesley Aker, Lachlan Kirk, Joshua and Allyson Emerson. He is also survived by his sister, Lois Krenz of Milwaukee, WI, and brother, Larry (Diane) Hansen of Menomonee Falls, WI; sister-in law, Penny (Steve) Lipford who helped with his care; brothers-in-law, Wayne (Beth) Bryant, Tom Jones, and many nieces and nephews.
Roy is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 22 years, Nita Hansen of whom he took such loving care. Also, he is preceded in death by his parents, brothers-in-law, Jim Krenz, Lee Helsley; sisters-in-law, Sherry Jones, and Avis Helsley.
His family would like to thank Dr. Vivian Cook, Dr. Miller, the therapists, nurses and all staff at Evansville Cancer Center and Transcendent Health Care North.
