Ruben Barrientes, a cherished member of his community and beloved family man, passed away on October 16, 2024, at the age of 62 in Corpus Christi, Texas. Born on May 23, 1962, in Robstown, Texas, Ruben lived a life marked by humility, hard work, and a deep commitment to his faith and his family.
For over 30 years, Ruben dedicated his career to the field of custodial services, spending 15 years with Jubilee and an impressive 17 years with the Kingsville Independent School District. His work ethic was unwavering, and he was known not only for his diligence but also for his caring nature and willingness to lend a helping hand to those around him. He ensured no problem was too small and would light every room with his infectious humor. Friends and colleagues have described him as a jokester, a man who could brighten anyone's day with a well-timed laugh or a playful tease.
Ruben found joy in the simple pleasures of life—watching WWE matches, enjoying a round of golf, having weekend barbecues cheering on the Cowboys, and fishing trips that brought him closer to nature and provided time for laughter with friends and loved ones. These interests were a testament to his appreciation for family and friends, which remained the central theme of his life.
Ruben Barrientes leaves behind a legacy of hard work, dedication, and joy. His memory will be cherished by all who knew him, as they remember a man full of life, ready to help, and committed to making the world a brighter place.
Though he is now reunited with his cherished family members who have passed—his parents Rogelio and Maria Barrientes; in-laws, Alfredo Garza Sr. and Irene Garza; and brother, Rene Barrientes; the love he cultivated during his lifetime serves as a radiant beacon for those he leaves behind.
Among those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 41 years, Irene Barrientes; brothers, Rogelio Barrientes and Alberto Barrientes; sister, Mary Barrientes; sister-in-law, Naida Medina; brothers-in-law, Alfredo Garza, Jr. (Diane) and Zaragoza Garza (Shana); and numerous nieces and nephews that he loved as his very own.
A visitation will be held on October 23, 2024, at Turcotte-Piper Mortuary in Kingsville, Texas, from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM, with a holy rosary to be recited at 7:00 PM. A memorial mass in honor of Ruben will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on October 24, 2024, at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church. Services will conclude after memorial mass and a private burial at a later date.
