Ruby Bay, age 98 of Gatesville, passed away on Wednesday, January 29, 2025.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, January 31, 2025 at Scott’s Funeral Home with Carlos Webb officiating. Burial will follow at Flint Creek Cemetery. Ruby’s family will receive visitors one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Ruby Mae Bay was born at home on August 28, 1926 in the Hubbard Community, located in Coryell County. She was the second of four children born to the late Howard and Lucy Winbush Shelton. She grew up in the Hubbard Community, where she attended school. She married Darel Bay on September 7, 1942, and together they made their home in Flat. She and Darel celebrated 69 wonderful years of marriage before his passing in March of 2012. Ruby owned and operated her own beauty salon for over 25 years. She was also a homemaker, and loved to quilt, sew, and cook. She was well known for her homemade biscuits and coconut pie. Some of her hobbies included going camping and fishing with her husband, friends and family.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Darel; sister, Inez Hemphill; brothers, Jackie Shelton and Allen Shelton; son-in-law, J.R. Kennedy; and grandsons, Michael Kennedy and Justin Santamaria.
Ruby is survived by her daughters, Linda Kennedy, Sharon Santamaria and husband, Jose, and Vicky Redden and husband, Chuck; grandchildren, Leisa Blanchard and husband, Chad, Nikki Kennedy and partner, Darrell Sheets, Joe Kennedy, Wyatt Kennedy and fiancé, Julie, Karron Santamaria, Jose Santamaria and wife, Katsi, Bryan Glenn, Kelli Redden, and Jaycee Redden; and numerous great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
