Ruby Carneol,
September 18, 2024, age 90, of Mequon. Preceded in death by loving husband Martin Carneol. Dear mother of Allan (Susan) Carneol, Dr. Mitchell Carneol, Jessica "Spyder" (Ken Carraro) Carneol, Stephen (Debra) Carneol, Philip (Miriam Plotkin) Carneol, and daughter-in-law Florence Laguardia. Adoring grandmother of Deborah (Ben) Fendrich, Haley (Oliver) Lerner, Sam Carneol, Dara Carneol, Disa Carneol, and Avery Carneol. Treasured great-grandmother of Logan Fendrich, Micah Fendrich, Eliza Lerner, and Margo Lerner. Further survived by other relatives and friends.
Ruby Lee Carneol (nee Haber) was born September 20th, 1933, in Brooklyn New York to parents Dora and Abraham Haber. She met her future husband, Martin Carneol at age 15 at a friend's sweet 16th birthday party. After High School Ruby worked as a secretary for a couple of years before marrying Marty in 1954. With their first baby son Allan in tow, they moved to Milwaukee WI in December 1955 where they raised Allan, Mitch, Jessica "Spyder", Steve and Phil.
During those child rearing years Ruby was very active in the Congregation Beth Israel Sisterhood and volunteered for many of the fund-raising events and community activities held at the synagogue. She was a loving and strict stay-at-home mom raising a small army. She was a marvel at scheduling showers before every holiday (one shower in the house), organizing and packing every detail of family camping trips, and attended every school function, piano recital, softball game, but only one wrestling match (it was too hard for her to watch her boys get pinned in a double chicken wing!). But as the kids got older, she had an itch for more and took a bookkeeping class and landed a job at the Militzer's Bakery where she worked for many years. Ruby could have run a multinational corporation :), but after Militzer's she opted to take on the position of assistant to both Rabbis Greg Wolf and Ike Serotta at Congregation Shalom. At Shalom she was the administrator of the Religious School where she was deeply appreciated, beloved and made lots of friends.
After retiring, Ruby and Marty traveled, enjoyed time with their children and spouses, 6 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren. She took up golf and loved to play with her girlfriends and daughter-in-laws. Ruby had been an avid knitter and crocheter, but gave that up for needlepoint and became masterful, making exquisitely beautiful pieces that decorated her home and became gifts for her children. In the 1980's Ruby embraced the technology age and became proficient with a computer. She was ahead of her time and enjoyed teaching her friends how to use them or troubleshooting their tech issues. The family also benefited from her tech savvy, receiving beautiful custom birthday cards every year. Ruby and Marty had been lovingly married for 67 years, and together for 72 when Marty passed away in November of 2021.
Ruby touched everyone she met. She could see into people in a playful way and most enjoyed those that she could have "schtick" with (poke fun in a playful way). She deeply loved her family, was kind, very caring, generous, unpretentious, and always spoke her mind. She will be deeply missed by her large family, friends, and the Teal Shores Community where she has lived the past 2 years.
A special thanks to "Team Lindsay", Ruthie, Hannah, and all the other wonderful caregivers that supported Ruby with deep care, love, compassion, and respect.
