Ruby Gross Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by John M. Ireland & Son Funeral Home and Chapel on Aug. 15, 2023.
Earlene Gross, aka "Memaw" was born December 2, 1925, to Earl and Beulah Boatman in Headrick, OK. She married the love of her life, Lonnie Wilson Gross, on May 18, 1945. Together they built an awesome family and a Godly home.
Memaw was always the life of every family function. She always made sure that every single person that showed up on Christmas Eve had a gift. If someone unexpectedly showed up she would run to the back room and find something to give them.
Memaw loved life. She followed all of her grandkids around to every sport or activity they had. She was always up for a shopping trip. If you would call her and ask what she was doing she would say "Oh, just sittin' here hoping you would call me to go shop". She never found a mall or Stein Mart that she didn't like.
In her later years she became the librarian at Community Christian School in Norman. Being at school was her greatest joy. She knew every single kid they were all "honey" or "sweetie" or "baby". She loved reading to the kids and talking to all of them. Sundays were always her favorite day because she could get up and go to church and then come home and get ready for school.
Everyone that knew Memaw knew that glitter and sequins were her absolute favorite and was a must in everything she wore. If it didn't have glitter on it when she bought it, you were guaranteed it would be on it before she wore it. She never wanted to look "dull". You could aways find her gluing sequins, glitter, or rhinestones on anything that was too dull or painting something with nail polish. And she ALWAYS had her nails polished with red glittery polish. She loved being flashy.
Memaw also had the best sayings of anyone. Here are a few of her funny sayings that she said all the time, "You're as handy as a button on a shirt", "Well bologna sausage!", "I'm colder than a toad frog!" She was never at a loss for words. If you had an ailment she would know just what you needed! She gave wonderful medical advice.
Memaw loved the Lord. She loved being at church and around her church family. There was never a question as to where she would be on Sundays. She loved her kids and grandkids. She loved life. She was an example of a life well lived.
Memaw is survived by her children Barbara Ohsfeldt (Jim), Lonnie Kent Gross (Carolyn) and Rodney Gross (Sherry). Her siblings Mary Alice Rains, Jean Bennett and Larry Boatman. Her grandchildren Eric Ohsfeldt (Kim), Amy Sing (Jackie), Kyle Ohsfeldt (Suzy), Niki St. Clair (Glen), Cody Gross (Memorie) and Dustin Gross (Tracy). She is also survived by 19 great-grandkids, and 9 great-great grandkids.
Memaw is preceded in death by her husband Lonnie Gross, her parents Earl and Beulah Boatman, brother Jack Boatman, daughter-in-law Kathy Gross, and great-grandson Jake Sing.
Memaw will be missed by all who knew her. She always left a little sparkle behind wherever she went.

Memaw was always so good to me and my boys! Any day was made better when I saw her early in the morning before devotionals. I can't imagine how many chocolate chip cookies she made for her kids at CCS but she sure put a smile on thousands of faces. I am glad that I was able to spend so many wonderful times with Memaw! She certainly made the world a better place for us all and I know that the streets of gold in heaven are shining a little brighter today!
