Obituary published on Legacy.com by John M. Ireland & Son Funeral Home and Chapel of Capitol Hill on Jan. 12, 2023.
Sydnée Sharice Jeter passed away on Thursday, January 5, 2023, in her sleep. Gerald and Karen Jeter were honored to be her parents. She was born September 5, 1994, in
Normal, IL. She was known to all her friends, church family, neighbors, and teachers as a sweet, endearing, comical, and selfless girl.
Sydnée attended Community Christian School in Norman, OK where she graduated on May 18, 2013. During her time at Community Christian, Syd played basketball and was on the golf team. She was a tomboy who excelled at pretty much any sport featuring a ball. After moving to Oklahoma, she became a fan of OSU, the university her grandfather attended for his PhD. She enjoyed watching football, and her favorite NFL teams were the Green Bay Packers and the Dallas Cowboys.
Syd's first job was at Southwest Christian Academy, thanks to Carissa Seal. She then moved on to the Oklahoma City Zoo, Amazon, and finally, UPS. She truly enjoyed her job at UPS and loved coming home to tell her mom all about her co-workers and what they did and said that night. She always viewed her UPS crew as her second family.
Sydnée was a loyal, cheerful, and compassionate person. She was extremely confident in herself and did not compromise her beliefs for anyone, never one to conform to the norm. Simply put, Sydnée loved to love. No matter your age, gender, economic status, race, or sexual orientation, you were someone special to her because you were someone special to Jesus. She never met a stranger and everyone she encountered was greeted with a cheerful, "Hi! How are you?"
Syd was a member of Graceway Baptist Church in Oklahoma City. She professed her faith in Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at a young age and was later baptized on February 5, 2006. For over a decade, Sydnée poured herself into the children of the church. She was involved in AWANA, VBS, Children's Camp, the church nursery, Mission 405, the Lifesong tour to Lockton, SC, and Mission Arlington. In addition to being a stellar role model for young people, Syd cared deeply for older generations. She liked to give flowers to the CCS lunch ladies on Mother's Day, write cards, give gifts on any occasion, and visit with those much older than herself.
Syd was usually the funniest person in the room. Most of the Jeter family photos feature Syd making a funny face. She enjoyed playing video games with her brother Derrick, and she loved watching scary movies, YouTube videos, and DC and Marvel movies. Wolverine was always her favorite character. Syd had a gift of perfectly imitating dialogue from videos and movies, and when she moved on to impersonating people she knew, even the grumpiest of people would crack a smile.
You could often catch Syd going to her favorite restaurants around town, like Hollies Flatiron Grill, Cane's, Buffalo Wild Wings, or the Great American Cookie Company. She loved cooking and made Michelle Trench's chicken chili recipe every 2 weeks. Syd also loved making her grandmother's beignets with powdered sugar. She adored animals, especially her precious pups, and Syd could be spotted regularly walking her beloved dogs - her White Shepherd, Molly, and her Weimaraner, Mia. She would be so eternally grateful to Ky Huber and her family for adopting them.
Her closest relationship was with her mom, Karen. They would call and text each other almost daily. Syd's love language was words of affirmation and she loved getting compliments, especially from her mom, the person who meant the most to her. Sydnée was a wonderful daughter, sister, granddaughter, niece, mentor, and friend to many. She will be so incredibly missed by everyone who was lucky enough to have known her.
Sydnée is survived by her parents, Gerald and Karen Jeter; her brother Derrick Jeter, and her sister Alyssa Jeter; her maternal grandparents, Leonard Craig and Patricia Lynch; her maternal aunts, Kathleen Jordano, and Rebecca Swan; her paternal grandparents, Melvyn and Jerrie Jeter; her paternal aunt, Stephanie Potts, and paternal uncles, Jeff and Jamie Jeter.
In lieu of flowers, please instead consider making a memorial donation in Sydnée's name to WildCare Oklahoma, a non-profit organization dedicated to wildlife rehabilitation in
Noble, Oklahoma. Syd would be delighted that her brother and sister picked a local animal rescue to honor her love of animals.
