Ruby Jo Heck Konkler

Ruby Jo Heck Konkler, 69, of Quincy, passed away Thursday, December 11, 2025, at home, with her daughter and sister by her side at 10:21pm in Quincy, IL.
Ruby Jo was born January 10, 1956, in Quincy, IL to Raymond and Carrie (Stice) Heck. She was married to Jackie Konkler on August 8, 2008 in Quincy, IL. He preceded her in death on June 2, 2015.
Survivors include her three daughters, Sarah Lynn (Chuck), Emily Walbert, and Shawna Walbert (Michael); four grandchildren, Allie Massingill (Charlie), Zach Lynn, Haley McCune (Jason) and Dylan McCune; one great-grandchild, Marcus; two sisters, Julie Lechtenberg (Tim) and Cindy Heck; and her fur baby, Sophia.
Ruby Jo was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; and one brother, Raymond "Red" Heck.
After graduating from Liberty High School in 1974, she embarked on a career that showcased her diverse talents and strong work ethic. She worked at Titan Wheel, where she was respected as a skilled welder and forklift operator. Ruby Jo was also known for her warm hospitality as a bartender and cook at Izzy & Isabelle's, where her presence was a comforting staple to many.
Beyond her work, Ruby Jo was a woman of many passions. Her giving heart led her to volunteer regularly, offering meals to the hungry from her own kitchen. She was an avid collector of frog memorabilia, each piece a story and a smile in her cherished collection. Friends recall her love for gathering at local spots like I&I and Players, where her laughter and stories were as much a part of the ambiance as the music and camaraderie.
Ruby Jo's culinary skills were legendary, especially her Ruby & Lloyd's casserole, a dish that brought together family and friends over shared meals and memories. Her love for the Twilight Zone reflected her appreciation for the mysterious and thought-provoking, while her taste in music, ranging from rock to hip-hop, with a special place for AC/DC, kept her spirit young and her energy high.
Above all, Ruby Jo was a matriarch who cherished family gatherings, whether they were lively barbecues or intimate conversations around her kitchen table. These moments were the essence of her joy, where she could share her wisdom, love, and laughter with those closest to her heart.
Cremation is under the direction of O'Donnell-Cookson Life Celebration Home. The family will host a celebration of life at Player's (5th and College) on Saturday, December 27, 2025, at 1:00pm.
