Ruby Hinton Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Smalls Mortuary - Eastern Shore - Daphne on Sep. 12, 2023.
"God's Precious Jewel"
Ruby Lee Hinton was born July 14, 1940, in Loxley, Alabama to the union of Samuel and Annie Brown. Though small in stature, Ruby, a true gem as her name signifies, had a presence that was larger-than-life, found rest in the arms of her beloved Savior, September 5, 2023.
Ruby was a graduate of Baldwin County Training School. She had a craft for culinary and for many years worked for Malbis Restaurant as a cook. When she was not cooking for the restaurant, she was certainly baking a cake for her loved ones.
Many reference her soulful vocal abilities and fancy footwork on the dance floor. Using her gifts for God's glory, Ruby was a member of the choir at St. John Baptist Church where she is notably known for her renditions of "Yes, God is Real," "Two Wings," "Milky White Way," and "Last Mile of the Way."
Ruby was the matriarch of her family. She exemplified this title wholeheartedly. Prior to her health decline, she devoted her time to her children and grandchildren. She valued family fellowship, whether it was Uno, Bingo, Trouble, or a puzzle at the table in the kitchen, or a volleyball game in the front yard, time was well spent to make memories.
Ruby Lee Hinton was preceded in death by her husband, Alonzo Hinton; her parents Samuel and Annie Brown; brothers Samuel Brown, Jr, James Brown, and Jessie Brown, Sr; her sisters Aretha Collins, Henrietta Williams, Alice Williams, Nadine Reed, and Gladys Fuller; her son, LaBarry Hinton; her son-in-law, Lavan Smith, Jr. She leaves to cherish her memories and celebrate her life two daughters, Charlene Dixon, and Cynthia Smith; four granddaughters, Norleisha (Brandon) Lewis, Tiffany Hinton, Charnell Lyons, and Stephaine Lyons; eight great-grandchildren, Tywan Goodman, Jamarcus Goodman, Brayden Lewis, Albert Smiley, Jr., Roxie Smiley, Paris Williams, Jayland Hurst, and Braxton Lewis; a Goddaughter, Annice (Otis) Smith, a brother, Edmond (Jewel) Brown; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
