Ruby Mae Hopper, age 92, of Louisville, Kentucky, departed this world on Saturday, August 24, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of love and profound devotion to her family. A cherished wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Ruby's life was built upon the foundations of family, which always took precedence in her heart.
Born on August 8, 1932, in Kirksville, Kentucky, she was the beloved daughter of Raymond and Pearl (Wren) Payne. Ruby dedicated many years of her life to her career at Brown and Williamson before embracing the joys of retirement. Her spirit shone brightly through her passion for Kentucky Wildcats basketball; she was an ardent fan who never missed a moment of the game. Additionally, Ruby found solace and adventure in the pages of her beloved books, which she cherished throughout her life.
Ruby's passing is mourned deeply by her family and friends. She was preceded in death by her father, Raymond S. Payne, Sr.; her mother, Pearl L. Payne; her devoted husband, Kenneth W. Hopper; as well as her siblings, Raymond Payne, Jr., Anni Margaret Payne, and Ester VanArsdale.
Her enduring spirit will live on in the hearts of her surviving loved ones: her beloved children, Carolyn Sue (Rodney) Middleton and Gregory T. (John) Hopper; her adoring grandchildren, Wendy Baker and Timothy (Wanda) Fruechtenicht; her great-grandchildren, Corey (Danielle) Fruechtenicht and JC Fruechtenicht; and her great-great-grandchildren, Bentley Fruechtenicht, Kylie Fruechtenicht, and Ruby Rose Fruechtenicht. Additionally, she is survived by her siblings, Bobby Payne, Nancy Conley, and Emma Hardin, along with a multitude of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends, all of whom will forever cherish her memory.
Visitation to honor Ruby will be held on Tuesday, August 27, 2024, from 9:30 AM to 11:00 AM at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions - Southwest Louisville Chapel, located at 10304 Dixie Hwy. The Funeral Service will commence at 11:00 AM, followed by interment at Louisville Memorial Gardens West in Louisville, Kentucky.
In remembrance of Ruby’s generous spirit, the family kindly requests contributions be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
