Ruby Minor Jones, affectionately known as by her sons as "Dean" to those who loved her, passed away peacefully on July 31, 2025, at her Eldest son's home on Lakewood Drive in LaPlace, Louisiana, at the age of 86. Ruby's life stands as a testament to faith, family, and a relentless dedication to caring for others-a legacy cherished by all who had the privilege to know her. Born on December 5, 1938, in Laurel Hill, Louisiana, Ruby was the cherished daughter of Louis Minor and Susie Harris. From her earliest days, Ruby exhibited a driven and resolute spirit. She graduated from Walter L. Cohen High School before pursuing her passion for healing at the Dillard University School of Nursing. For more than 60 years, Ruby served as a Registered Nurse, and her extraordinary compassion earned her the 2006 Heroic Peoples Health Champion Award. She was, for so many, the consummate caregiver-never hesitating to offer assistance, comfort, or expert medical knowledge to family, neighbors, or strangers in need. Ruby was deeply rooted in her faith. Her love for the Lord was evident in her lifelong commitment to Bible study, singing in the choir, and faithfully hosting church gatherings in her home. Her warmth and devotion fostered a welcoming spirit that embraced relatives, friends, and fellow church members alike. A proud mother of four, Ruby is survived by her devoted sons, Kevin Phillips (Evangeline) and Rene' Phillips (Sandy). She was preceded in death by her beloved daughters, Denise and Shannon Phillips, her Daughter-in-law Marie Tina Phillips and Great grandson Royal Lampkin, her sister, Oceal Jacobs as well as by their parents, Louis Minor and Susie Jackson. Ruby leaves behind a rich legacy-a loving family that includes six grandchildren Daishawn Lee, Kristeena English (Fernando), Leah Phillips Bailey (Sean) Chauntel Phillips, Rachel Phillips Martin (Myles), and Jared Phillips (Katherine), eleven great-grandchildren, loving nieces, nephews and a host of extended family and friends whose lives she touched. Ruby was a lover of life. She delighted in family gatherings and cherished moments spent playing Scrabble, Taboo, and solving crossword puzzles. She loved to bowl, was ever-competitive at the card table, and if cruising counts as a hobby, it was her favorite way to see the world-having ventured on over 20 cruises and even travelling to Europe. A Celebration of Life will be held at D.W. Rhodes Funeral Home, 3933 Washington Avenue, New Orleans, on Friday, August 8, 2025 at 10:00 am, officiated by Pastor David Rodriguez of Christian Fellowship Church of Marrero. Visitation will precede the service from 9:00 am to 9:45 am. All who were touched by Ruby's care, faith, and vibrant love of life are welcome. As Ruby often said: "Let the work I've done speak for me." Interment: Providence Park Cemetery. Arrangement by D.W. Rhodes Funeral Home, New Orleans, LA.
