Ruby Hawke Kenaston, age 89, of Fort Walton Beach, Florida passed away Monday, May 6, 2024. Ms. Kenaston was born in Atmore, Alabama in 1934 to John & Ethel Lee Hawke. She graduated in 1956 from Troy University with a Bachelor's degree and then in 1974 with her Master's degree. Ms. Kenaston's career in education with Okaloosa County School District spanned thirty years, with positions at Eglin Elementary School, Kenwood, and Ocean City. She was an active member of the Troy Alumni Association, Florida Retired Educators, Alpha Delta Kappa, and Fidelis Tau. Ms. Kenaston was a Baptist by faith. In her spare time, she enjoyed reading, traveling, spending time with her family & friends, and trips to Biloxi.
Ms. Kenaston is preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband of sixty-three years, William B. Kenaston; and her son, Mark Kenaston. She is survived by her son, Scott (Chris) Kenaston; grandchildren, Sam Kenaston and Melina (Jerry) Sarment Vasquez; great-grandchildren, Riley, Emilia, and Elijah; and sister, Hattie Livingston.
A graveside service will be held at Beal Memorial Cemetery on Saturday, May 18, 2024, at 10:00 AM. Following the service, a Celebration of Life will be held at Ruby's home, 17 Oakdale Road NW, in Fort Walton Beach. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider a donation in Ruby's name to a charity of your choice.
