Claxton, Tennessee – Ruby Jean Mallouf Schlandt, age 91, went to be with the Lord on September 9, 2025.

Ruby was born in the panhandle of Texas and grew up in the tiny farming community near Muleshoe, TX. It was there she learned to live well and work hard. After marrying David Schlandt, she continued to work hard and live an active life, spending time with loved ones and friends. She particularly enjoyed traveling with her husband and three children, and later, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Over the years they camped and visited scenic sites all over the United States.

Ruby was also an active member of Central Baptist Church of Oak Ridge, where she served in many capacities, including hospitality and the nursery. She was an active member of the Christian Women's Club of Oak Ridge. Later, when her children were raised, she worked as a talented seamstress at Miller's Department Store in downtown Knoxville, turning her artistic abilities toward the difficult art of sewing fur coats. In addition, she was a member of the Arty Club of Oak Ridge where she shared her love of painting.

Creating was her passion, and her creative spirit began at a young age. She brought to life many of the scenes she witnessed over the years as her family traveled the country. Ruby was a gifted painter and many of her beautiful and heartfelt creations hang in the homes of those she loved, leaving a great legacy to be remembered forever.

Of particular importance was her twinkling smile and positive spirit which brought joy to all who knew her. She had the ability to light up a room. It has been said she never raised her voice nor said a bad word, preferring instead to share her goodness and light with all.

Ruby is preceded in death by her mother, Irene Hayes and her father, Abe Mallouf both of Texas, and brother Junior Mallouf, of Texas. She is survived by her husband, David Schlandt, children, Debbie Smith, Jerry David Schlandt, and Donald Schlandt, grandchildren Michelle Smith, Abby Holiday, Louis David Smith, Tyler Schlandt and Meredith McCarter, Jordan Schlandt and Dylan Schlandt, her sister, Betty Jo Mallouf Estep, as well as many great grandchildren, relatives, friends and loved ones.
