Ruby Nell Shaw, age 91 of Tuscaloosa, Ala., previously of Jasper, Ala., passed away July 8, 2025 at her residence. Graveside services will be 11:30 a.m. Monday, July 14, 2025, at Oak Hill Cemetery, 501 Oak Hill Rd, Jasper, Al 35504, with Magnolia Chapel North directing.
She was preceded in death by her parents, George D. O'Rear and Nellie Childers O'Rear of Jasper, Ala.
She is survived by her son, Ralph Shaw of Tuscaloosa, Ala.
She spent her childhood with her parents in Charleston, NC. She spoke of her time there very happily. Her early years found her there in Charleston and Jasper, Ala. After marriage she resided in the Pacific Northwest, Fort Worth and Dallas, Texas, New Orleans and Jasper. She was very active at Midway Church of Christ in Jasper and taught Sunday school for years. She spent her last 10 years in Tuscaloosa with her son.
When I was asked questions about my Mom's life, the question of "occupation" came up. She had so many jobs, but her one true job was "MOM". In the theme song for the Reba sitcom, the lyrics go: "A Single Mom who works too much, who Loves her KID and never stops. With a gentle hand and the heart of a fighter" THAT describes my Mom completely. May God bless her until we meet again.
