Ruby Thomas Obituary
Ruby Mae Craig Thomas of Sanford, 95, passed away peacefully into eternal rest on Thursday, April 11 2024 at UNC Memorial Hospital in Chapel Hill with her devoted son by her side.
Ruby was born on April 22, 1928 to Charles Spurgeon Craig and Fannie Kirby Craig.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by daughter, Bonnie Sue Thomas and son Russell "Rusty" Craig Thomas; sisters, Thelma Craig Gordon, Geneva Craig Seagroves, brother, Charles S. Craig Jr. and grandson, Jason Scott Thomas.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory, son, Danny Scott Thomas (Sherry) of Sanford, Granddaughters, Crystal Whitaker (Nick), Shelley Peptis (Mitch), Lindsey Nugent (Chris), eight great grandchildren, daughter in law, Carol and a number of loving nieces and nephews.
Ruby (nickname "Rickie") graduated from CCCC School of Nursing after rearing her children and worked in the old Sanford Hospital as a LPN for several years. With a reputation for taking excellent care of her patients, she was also a favorite nurse to many and would sometimes break into song to cheer them up. Ruby later felt it was more important to quit her job at the hospital and apply those nursing skills to caring for her elderly mother at home who was bedridden for more than thirteen years.
Ruby had many friends and always put others needs before her own. She loved her family dearly and most of all she loved the Lord.
The family will receive friends at Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home on Friday, April 19 from 1:00 PM until 1:50 PM. The funeral service will follow at 2:00 PM in the chapel, with Pastor Pearl Castleberry officiating. Burial will follow at Buffalo Cemetery. The family will gather following the burial at Sanford Free Will Holiness Church, 3000 Lemon Springs Road, Sanford, NC, 27332 for a time of food and fellowship.
