Ruby Williams Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Unity Mortuary of Anderson on Apr. 2, 2025.
"Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father's house are many mansions: If it were not so, I would have told you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am there ye may be also." John 14:1-3
Mrs. Ruby Lee Smith Williams, affectionately known as "Miss Ruby" departed her earthly life and embarked on her journey to eternal rest surrounded by her family on Monday March 31, 2025, at Rainey Hospice House. She was born in Anderson County on April 24, 1931, to the late George and Mattie Mitchell Smith.
She was married to the late Edwin Williams, who preceded her in death in 1968. She was also preceded in death by her parents, sister, Daltha Chick; brother, Johnny "Steve" Smith; nephews, Jeffrey Smith and Douglas Barnes; nieces, Yvonne Sherred and Diane Sherred.
Ruby worked as a domestic engineer for several families in the Williamston area. She also worked as a cook at the Palmetto Beacon restaurant in Williamston, and once ran a roadside café in Williamston. Ruby was an excellent cook and was known throughout the family for her cornbread dressing, potato salad, sweet potato custards, and fried pies. Ruby loved playing dominoes with her family and friends and was often hard to beat. Ruby had a very witty personality and was very outspoken and was definitely not one known for mincing her words. She told you just what she thought.
Ruby was a member of New Prospect Missionary Baptist Church in Williamston, SC where she served as an usher for many years and was a member of the adult senior women's Sunday School class. She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. In this time of mourning, we celebrate a life well lived. Ruby was loved by her family and friends and her spirit will forever remain in our hearts.
Ruby is survived by daughters, Betty (Michael) Smith Jones of Spartanburg, SC, and Elaine Sanders of Williamston, SC; granddaughter, reared in the home, Patrice Smith, of the home; grandson, Damion Sanders of Williamston; three step grandchildren, four step great grandchildren, and one step great great grandchild.
Brothers, Bobby James Smith of Williamston and Charles R. Guyton, Sr. of Greenville; sister, Georgia Smith of Williamston, as well as many other nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
The funeral service for Mrs. Williams will be held on Friday, April 4, 2025, New Prospect Missionary Baptist Church, Williamston, SC, at 1:00 pm. Interment will follow at the church's cemetery.
