Rudolf D. Devich

Rudolf Devich, age 88, passed away at his home on January 3, 2023 with his beloved family by his side.
Rudy was born in Sukošan, Croatia on May 11, 1934 to the late Frane Devich and Gilda Benich Devich. He emigrated (aka jumped ship) to Albany, NY on March 30, 1954. The authorities were unsuccessful in finding him and he eventually became a naturalized citizen of the US.
Over the years he had many professions ranging from ski instructor, model, used car salesman, and various positions in the restaurant business until he achieved the American dream of owning his own restaurant in New York City.
Rudy is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Maj Hansson Devich, his children Dino, Michelle Bartels (Matt), Desiree MacLeod (Iain), his grandchildren Ryan, Luke, (Shannon), Julia, Liam, Maddie, and James, and his great grandchildren Aurora Marie and Ambrose. Additionally, he is survived by his siblings, Rozarija Sutich and Ante. He is preceded in death by his brother, Bozidar.
The funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:30am Saturday, January 7, 2023 at St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church located at 31 St. Gregory Drive, Bluffton, SC.
