Rudolph Compton Smith, 93, of Jackson, NJ passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. His sunrise was May 28,1932 and sunset November 4, 2025.
He was born and raised in Guyana, South America to the late Josephine Elizabeth Martin Smith and the late George Joshua Smith. Rudolph married Celia Agnes in June 1959. She was the love of his life. They raised five children in Guyana before migrating to the United States in August 1978. He then moved to New Jersey in 1992 and eventually settling into retirement in Jackson in 2023.
While in Guyana, Rudolph studied at the Griffith School of Accountancy, where he earned the London Chamber of Commerce Higher Accounting Certificate. He also obtained a certificate from the Pitman School of Accounting. He earned an Associate degree from New York City Technical College and a Bachelor's degree from Brooklyn College. Rudolph worked at Guyana Timbers Export where he secured licensing and permits necessary to export timber products from Guyana, He had a passion for numbers that segued his career into accounting at the External Trade Bureau. Rudolph dedicated 20 years of his career to Manufacturer Hanover Trust (now known as JP Morgan Chase) in New York City, where he worked as an accountant until his retirement.
He had a passion for puzzles-especially crosswords and word searches-and was an enthusiastic cricket fan who also enjoyed a good game of tennis. Naturally curious and eager to learn, Rudolph attended several community colleges, studying Spanish and computer skills. He also took piano lessons and loved spending time at the keyboard.
Rudolph shared a love of travel with Celia, exploring numerous countries across Europe-including England, Italy, France, and Austria-and taking bus tours through many U.S. states. He especially treasured long walks in the park with his wife, where they would share deep and meaningful conversations along the way.
A devoted singer, Rudolph shared his voice with the choirs of St. Luke's Church and St. Joseph the Carpenter in Roselle, NJ. His faith was the foundation of his life-he had a profound love for God and the Bible and often drew inspiration from quoting scripture.
Rudolph was predeceased by his beloved daughter, Rosemary Collins, in March 2023. He is survived by his devoted wife of 66 years, Celia Smith; his children, Andrea Smith-Doris, Sergeant Major Roaul Smith (retired), Olivia V. Smith, and Wyston Smith (DJKat); his grandchildren, Alyssia, Donald, Joshua, Paige, Tameka, Wyston Jr., Alaina, and his great-grandchildren, Jah'Luh and Adrial. He also leaves behind his sisters-in-law, Robena Douglas, Simone Dundas, Vanessa McKay, Paula Robinson, Leotha Chase, and brother-in-law Wallace Douglas.
Rudolph was the last surviving member of his generation of nine siblings, following the passing of Winifred Underwood, Elaine Monroe-Byrne, Gertrude (Hyacinth) Edwards, Ivan Smith, Marjorie (Shelia) Moore, Idaliah Monsanto, Winston Smith, and Joyce Evelyn Smith-Monroe. He also leaves behind a loving extended family of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 8:30 to 10:30 AM at Oliverie Funeral Home, 125 S. Cooks Bridge Road, Jackson, NJ.
