Rudy was born on April 19, 1934, in Rathbun, IA, the son of Ludwick and Mary (Blozovich) Zemo. Rudy was united in marriage to Jacquetta "Jackie" Guinn in Unionville, MO. He worked at Young Radiator for many years.
Rudy and Jackie enjoyed dancing. He and Jackie would go to the Club 34, the Eagles, both in Centerville and Ottumwa, Charlie's, and Rathbun Country Music Theatre, just to name a few. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Centerville.
Rudy is survived by his children, Lee "Speedy" (Deb) Smothers of Moravia, Randy Smothers of Hedrick, Mark (Thelma) Smothers of Centerville, Brent Smothers of Indianola, and Mike Zemo of St. Charles; nine grandchildren, Heather (Tim) Maletta of Moravia, Miranda (Cliff) Tucker of Ottumwa, Anthony (Brooke) Smothers of Glenwood, Cody Smothers (Alexis) of Centerville, Shawn (Michele) Smothers of Pella, Zach Smothers of Los Angeles, Taylor Smothers of Carlisle, Tanner (Tyarra) Smothers of Pleasantville, and Stacy (Tracy) Lawson of Centerville; nine great grandchildren, McKinlee (Jordan) Jenkins, Ty Tucker, Kirby Tucker, Cambree Smothers, Finley Smothers, Kinsley Smothers, Piper Smothers, Dalton Lawson, and Kenny Lawson; six great-great grandchildren, Chase Lawson, Oakie Lawson, Walker Jenkins, Phoebe Smothers, Athena Smothers, and Sutton Smothers; two sisters, Pauline and Dolores Zemo of Centerville; and a brother-in-law, Stanley Beals of Illinois.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Ludwick and Mary Zemo; brothers, Louie, Steve and Tom Zemo; a sister, Helen Beals; and a grandson, Kenny Smothers. Rudy's heart has been broken since the death of Jackie, the love of his life, on October 12, 2015.
Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m. on Monday, November 4, 2024, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Centerville, IA, with Rudy's family present to greet family and friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, November 4, 2024, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Centerville, with Father Ron Hodges officiating. Burial will follow services Zoar Cemetery in Exline, IA.
A memorial has been established to Zoar Cemetery in Exline, IA.
