Rudy Calder Obituary

Published by Legacy on Aug. 18, 2025.
Rudy Britton Calder, of Springfield, MO, passed away peacefully on August 14, 2025, in his home with the ARC of the Ozarks. He was 64 years old.

Born on August 31, 1960, in Springfield, MO, to Ralph Harold Calder and Patricia Leigh Calder (Britton), Rudy was full of life and orneriness from a young age. He shared a special bond with his brother, Eric "Bart" Calder. Bart recently recalled a cherished story from their childhood: around ages 4 and 5, the brothers ventured out in a boat to the middle of the lake, only to be rescued by their mom and a helpful fisherman. Rudy had a deep love for games, particularly Connect Four, and anyone who spent time with him was likely roped into a game or two.

It was Bart and his sister Erin's greatest honor to serve as Rudy's guardians in recent years, ensuring he was well cared for. Rudy had a particular fondness for his loving staff at the ARC of the Ozarks, where he spent over 40 years. Their fun banter back and forth was a highlight-if you weren't used to it, it might catch you off guard, but Rudy thrived on it. The staff made it possible for Rudy to live with a remarkable level of independence, enjoying movies, special outings, park visits, trips to the zoo, McDonald's runs, and so much more. He was truly loved, and he loved them in return. The family once again extends heartfelt thanks to all of Rudy's ARC staff through the years, with special recognition to the Jackson ISL team, who rose to the challenge of caring for him during hospice. It was a tough job, but it was done with love and care that will never be forgotten.

Rudy was preceded in death by his mother, Patricia Calder. He is survived by his father, Ralph Calder; his brother, Eric "Bart" Calder; his sister, Erin Standage (Calder) and her husband, Dave Standage; his niece, Quincy Light (Standage) and her husband, Grayson Light.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, August 21, 2025, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Ebenezer Historical Society, located at 1624 West Farm Road 56, Springfield, MO 65803. A light lunch, Dr. Pepper, and Skittles will be served.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Rudy's remembrance may be made to The ARC of the Ozarks at www.thearcoftheozarks.org.
