Russell Lee Cross, age 88, a resident of Belington, West Virginia, passed away on Friday, May 9, 2025, at the Tygart Valley Health and Rehabilitation Center in Belington. He had been in failing health for some time. He was born on September 1, 1936, at Hunter's Fork community near Belington, a son to the late Early Cross, and Emma (Yeager) Cross. Russell was a cherished brother to his beloved sister, Betty Ruth Wilson of Philippi. Together, they shared countless memories that will forever be etched in hearts of those who knew them, a nephew; Brian Payne, cousin; Helen Mondford of Elkins, several friends who he thought of as his own family; Rochelle White, her children; Isaiah White, Zackery White, and Cieara (White) Johnson, Joe Moore, and wife Christine, Jerry Moore, and wife Robin. He was preceded in death by his sister; Dessie Payne, an infant nephew; Lee Cross, stepbrothers; Carl, and Sam Null. Mr. Cross attended the schools of Barbour County; he was a Pentecostal by faith, he was a member and attended Hunter's Fork Church for many years, where he kept the church folks warm by building fires in the wood stove during the cold winter months. Russell loved to farm, he enjoyed riding horse and buggy through the mountains as young man, and later in life that horse and buggy turned into an automobile, he used to drive his sister Betty which he called her "Sissy" on far car rides through the mountains. Russell a man of many stories and tales had a few nick names which included Ewe Ewe, and Two Daddy. In the several friends section above, he was like a second father to most of them. Russell's warm spirit and gentle demeanor brought joy to all who had the privilege of his company. He was a steadfast friend, always ready with a listening ear and words of encouragement. His legacy is one of unwavering support and love. Family and friends may gather at the Kittle Family Funeral Home 265 Beech Ave., Philippi on Thursday, May 15, 2025, from 10 am until noon. A funeral service will be conducted at noon with his dearest friend Pastor Shirley Webster officiating. He will be laid to rest by his parents at the Stringtown Cemetery near Belington. Online condolences may be expressed to the family at www.kittlefamilyfh.com. Russell's gentle spirit and unwavering generosity were a source of comfort to his family and friends. He lived his life with integrity, bringing joy and laughter to those who surrounded him. His legacy of love and kindness will forever remain in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him.
