Four Oaks, NC: Mr. Russell Owen Evans, age 85, of Thompson Road passed away on Friday, September 19, 2025 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Funeral Services will be held- 2:00PM Tuesday, September 23, 2025 at Blackman’s Grove Baptist Church in Four Oaks. Officiating will be Revs. Rodney Wilson and Jerry Hicks. Burial will follow in the Pilkington Family Cemetery in Pine Level.
Mr. Evans was born on May 17, 1940 in Johnston County to the late Richard Ira and Effie Adams Evans. He was preceded in death by his sisters and brothers, Myrtle Sasser, Doug Evans, Richard Ira Evans, Jr., and Faye Phillips. Mr. Evans retired from the Universal Leaf Tobacco Company. He was a US Army Veteran serving our country for nine years. Mr. Evans was a hard worker all his life, being a jack of all trades and enjoyed spending time with his horses. He enjoyed cooking for his family and friends. Mr. Evans was a member of Blackman’s Grove Baptist Church for many years and served as a deacon.
Survivors include his wife of 15 years, Phyllis Johnson Evans; children, Russell “Rusty” Owen Evans, Jr., Keith Flowers, Greg Johnson and wife, Rene, Mike Johnson and wife, Michelle; grandchildren, Adam Evans, Anna Grace Evans, Candace Hendrix and husband, Russell, Scott Johnson, Joshua Johnson, Zachary Johnson, and Jonathan Johnson; great-granddaughter, Ashley Hendrix; several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 12:30 PM to 1:45 PM prior to the service at Blackman’s Grove Baptist Church in Four Oaks and other times at the home.
The Evans Family would like to thank Dr. Eugene Maynard of Benson Health and the Johnston County Home Health and Hospice for their care of Mr. Russell.
