Russell Everett Hokanson, age 82 of Wilmington, Delaware, passed away peacefully at Mountain City Care Center on January 25, 2024 after a brief illness. He stayed with his daughter in Delaware for a few months then came to live with his daughter and family in Mountain City after the loss of his beloved wife of 59 years, Barbara Hokanson. He was born on March 16, 1941 in Worcester, Massachusetts to the late Everett and Lillian Hokanson. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his in-laws; as he was an only child.

He is survived by his two daughters, Donna Hokanson of Wilmington, DE, Debbie Jennings and husband Moses of Mountain City, TN; his grandchildren, Krista Jennings, Mark Jennings and wife Sarah; great grandchildren, Shawn, Matthew, Kelsey Forrester, McKenzie and Luke Jennings all of Mountain City, TN.

Russ loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them and making memories. He worked as a chemical engineer with DuPont for 30 years before retiring at the age of 50. He then became very active, going to the YMCA every day and traveling all over the world. He had many friends all over the place. He was a healthy, fit man who ran a lot of races including the New York Marathon over the years.

A special thank you to the wonderful caring staff at Mountain City Care Center for the care he received while there; as well as Gentiva Hospice.

The memorial service for Russ will be held on February 16, 2024 at 12:00 p.m. with calling hours from 11:00-12:00 at Saint Philips Lutheran Church, 5320 Limestone Road, Wilmington, Delaware.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association at www.act.alz.org or 225 N. Michigan Ave, Fl 17, Chicago, IL 60601.
