Russell Norcross Kimball

Russell Norcross Kimball, 85 years old, of Raleigh, NC and Eastham, MA passed away on October 12, 2025. Russ was born on December 4, 1939, in Middlesex County, Massachusetts to the late Hosmer and Florence Felt Kimball.

Russ grew up in Ashland, MA and moved as an adult to Raleigh, NC, where he spent the better part of a decade before being transferred back to New England. Eventually settling in Eastham, MA, he enjoyed Cape Cod life for 30 years before recently moving back to Raleigh to be closer to his children and grandchildren.

An avid pilot, Russ made a mid-life career change from his long-time job with Data General to a self-employed, single engine flight instructor, which he thoroughly loved and had the good fortune to do for several decades. He was also a history buff, reading voraciously and always happy to make a road trip detour to visit a battlefield or ruin. As a rule, Russ was up for any adventure, from taking up snow skiing in his 50s, to far flung travels, whale watches, moose sighting safaris, extensive 'gunk-holing' along the coast of Maine, and wanderings throughout New Hampshire and Massachusetts. If there was an experience to be had, he was ready to go.

Russ was predeceased by his wife, Beverly Heaton Kimball; his two brothers, Everette and George Kimball and his sister, Evelyn Gates. Those remaining to cherish his memory are his son, Paul Kimball and his husband Marjun Balatero; his daughters, Darlene Kimball Quillen, Denise Kimball Morgan and her husband Timothy, and Donna Kimball Anthony and her husband Whit; his grandchildren, Connor Quillen, Olivia Ferrini and her husband Zach, Caroline Morgan, Isabelle Morgan, and Rylie Anthony; his great granddaughter, Holland Ferrini; and many in-laws, nieces, nephews, and friends. Additionally, Russ's family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff and his friends at Brookdale Independent Living in Raleigh, whose warmth and kindness made the last year such a wonderful experience for him.

A memorial service will be held at a later date in Massachusetts.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Russ's memory to a local animal shelter of your choice.
