Russell L. McCall

Russell L. McCall went to be with the Lord Friday, December 30, 2022.
He was born March 1, 1947 to the late Ethel and Alfred McCall. He joins his wife Connie in heaven.
He leaves behind his children, Russ (Lisa) McCall, Deb (BJ) Whiteman, Dan (Joanna) McCall; his grandchildren, Shelby & Justin McCall, Emma, Stephanie & Brin Whiteman, Jacob, Isaac & Caleb McCall; sister, Cindy Hutchison; brothers, Cecil (Ellen) McCall, Russell (Sharon) Flint, Charlie (Cindy) Flint, Keith (Tam) Flint, Kevin (Mary Beth) Flint, Brian (LuAnn) Flint, Dale (Rhoda) Flint; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Russell graduated from Cherry Valley Central School in 1965.
He served as a bomb navigation system aircraft mechanic in the United States Air Force August 1, 1966-July 31, 1970.
He married Connie Flint on July 29, 1967 at the First Presbyterian Church, Cherry Valley.
He worked at Flint's garage and was a bus driver for Cherry Valley Central School until accepting a job with Otsego County as a 911 dispatcher, where he took thousands of calls and helped countless people. He transferred to the Highway Dept before retiring from Otsego County.
After retirement, he worked at Metro cleaners.
He was a former member of the Cherry Valley Emergency squad, The Cherry Valley Fire Department, where he was a former chief and up to his passing, was a commissioner for the Cherry Valley Fire Department. He started the Explorer Post 37 to help get youth interested in Emergency Services.
He was a Boy Scout leader for many years.
He was an active member of the American Legion Post 1360 where he was a former Commander.
He was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Cherry Valley. He was a former trustee, and Sunday school co-superintendent and at the time of his passing, session member.
Russell was a quiet, kind man who always put family first, especially his grandchildren who were his world. He will be greatly missed!
Friends are invited to greet the family from 4pm-7pm Wednesday Jan 4th at the Ottman Funeral Home, 22 Church Street, Cherry Valley. Funeral service will be held Thursday, January 5th at 11am at the First Presbyterian Church, Cherry Valley.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the First Presbyterian Church, Cherry Valley or the Cherry Valley Fire Dept.
