Russell Lee Varnell, who resided in Spiro, Oklahoma, passed away Wednesday, February 16, 2022, at Baptist Health in Fort Smith. He was born on July 5, 1954, in Paris, Arkansas, to the late Russell Lee Varnell and Bessie Mae (Daniels) Varnell. He was 67 years old. He was preceded in death by his father and a daughter, Christy Varnell.
He served in the U.S. Navy and was a member of the Assembly of God Church in Midway, Arkansas.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm, Saturday, February 19th at Midway Assembly of God, with Dr. Curtis Varnell officiating. Burial will follow at Hickory Grove Cemetery in the St. Louis Valley, under the direction of Brotherton Brothers Funeral Home in Paris.
He is survived by two sons, Michael Varnell of Porterville, California, and Dalton Boyd of Spiro, Oklahoma; a daughter, Patricia Varnell and husband Terry Taylor of Paris; his mother, Bessie Daniels of Spiro; five brothers, Ronny Varnell and wife Edna of Oklahoma City, Tommy Varnell and wife Cheryl of Paris, Gary Varnell and wife Kathy of Paris, Cliff Varnell of Tuttle, Oklahoma, and Jerry Ayers of Springdale, Arkansas; a sister, Brenda Chism and husband Chip of Tuscon, Arizona; and three grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Ray Varnell, Terry Taylor, Brandon Gollihar, Kenneth Ezell, Terry Brannon and Mark Varnell. Honorary Pallbearer will be Dalton Boyd.
The family will visit with friends from 11:00 a.m. until service time on Saturday at the church.
