Ruta Tekeste & Bruk Mehari Obituary
Ruta was an Eritrean American and born April 16, 1971, in Ethiopia, daughter of late Zewde Bahta and Dehab Tesfu. Ruta married Yonas Tsadik in 2009, in Cairo, Egypt. She was an active member at her church where she attended bible school every day. She was a supporting mom, who was optimistic, and loved to help people. Ruta was currently enrolled in Kirkwood while working towards her nursing degree and opening her own restaurant.
Bruk was born February 16, 2010, in Cairo, Egypt, son of Yonas Mehari and Ruta Tekeste. Bruk was an 8th grader at Prairie Point Middle School in Cedar Rapids. He enjoyed playing video games, soccer, basketball, video chatting with his cousins on the phone, swimming, and loves his birds and dogs. He was also an active member in his church where he was in the show choir.
They are survived by their family, Yonas (Husband-his children: Samrawit, Milkias, Hana), Daughter-Samra, Mother- Dehab, Father-Zewde Tekeste (late) and step-father Aschalew Tafesse, Siblings (Mehari-Selamawit, Simon (late), Yodit-Aman, Yonatan, Abel, Gelila), Nephew- Nieces (Emmanuel, Eliana, Samuel, Noad, Nardos, Natan) and many loving family members and friends.

Ruta and Buruk moved in to their apt about the time I moved into mine. Buruk was about 9 maybe. He was so friendly. I have enjoyed watching him grow up to be a wonderful young man. He was a genuinely kind boy. Ruta also was so friendly, caring and generous. I will remember our conversations always. I counted them as friends and my favorite neighbors!
