Ruth L. Ard

Ruth L. Ard, 97, of McAlisterville, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 30, 2025 at her residence. Born on August 9, 1928 in McAlisterville, Juniata County, she is a daughter of the late George W. and Bernice E. (Varner) Amey. On August 16, 1947 in Mexico, Juniata County, she married her late husband, Arthur E. "Bill" Ard, with whom she was blessed to share over 52 years of marriage with before his passing on September 4, 1999. She is survived by her daughter, Lisa Jo Ard of McAlisterville; one sister in law, Joyce (Ard) Fox; and many nieces, nephews, and close friends who were like family to her. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her later in life companion, Robbie Lauver. Mrs. Ard was a life long member and attended St. John United Methodist Church in McAlisterville where she proudly was a member for over 83 years and had served with the church's Kitchen Committee. In earlier life, she was employed as a seamstress at local sewing factories and, along with her husband, had farmed. Ruth enjoyed gardening, quilting, doing crafts, crocheting, sewing, enjoying bus trips, going to jams with her friends, and will be remembered for her delicious coconut cream pies. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday, December 6, 2025 at St. John United Methodist Church, 675 Red Bank Road, McAlisterville, with Pastor Ray Bailor officiating. Interment will follow at Goodwill Cemetery, Bunkertown. A closed casket visitation will be held from 9:30 AM until the time of the Funeral Services at 10:30 AM on Saturday at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Mrs. Ard's memory can be made to St. John United Methodist Church, Lisa Ard, 225 Cheswyck Drive, McAlisterville, PA 17049 or to the Goodwill Cemetery Association, Roger Shallenberger, 3352 Mountain Road, McAlisterville, PA 17049.
