Ruth Langley Ayers of Amherst, Virginia passed away one day shy of her 92nd birthday on Friday, August 9, 2024. She was the daughter of the late Carrie and John Langley, and the wife of Oscar Bland Ayers, Jr.
She was born on August 10, 1932, in Frost, West Virginia. Ruth was a member of Madison Heights Baptist Church. She had a deep love for music and her choir family for over 38 years. She taught the Gleaners women’s class for over 20 years. She was a loyal and dedicated wife, mother, and grandmother, who enjoyed traveling in her RV with OB her husband and grandchildren to the beach and to the mountains. She was a prolific writer and was artistically creative. Ruth was an avid reader and loved archeology and traveling. She maintained an open heart and mind. She was always open to a good ole’ fashioned debate.
Ruth was a graduate of Pilot Mountain North Carolina High School and the Jefferson School of Commerce in Charlottesville, Virginia. She sang for many years in the Lynchburg Fine Arts Chorus, Facination and worked a majority of her career doing medical transcripts in secretarial positions.
She is survived by her children, Douglas Ayers, Thomas B. Ayers (Gina), and Carrie Gina Stinnett; grandchildren, Jacob Ayers (Courtney), Brian Ayers, Bethany Moog-Ayers (Aubrey), Luke Mannion (Bethany), Meagan Adams, and David Ayers (Alicia); great-grandchildren, Grayson, Nolan, Lawson, Blithe, Kinsley, Stetson, Madalyn, and Isabella; sister, Glenna Rowland; and many loving nieces, nephews, and friends in the community.
In addition to her loving husband and parents, she is predeceased by her siblings, Daniel “Bud” Langley and Carol Franke; and other close friends and family.
A memorial service will be held at Madison Heights Baptist Church on Friday, August 16, 2024, at 2:00 PM with Pastor Josh Beeler officiating. The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to her dedicated caregivers and friends throughout her illness. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or Madison Heights Baptist Church.
