Ruth Ann Cunningham, 79, of Athens, passed away at her home after an extended illness on Thursday, March 13, 2025. Ruth was born on July 5, 1945, in Carbondale, Ohio, the daughter of the late Kenneth V. Newlun and Ruth (Johnson) Pancake.
Ruth is survived by her daughters, Carla Iscrupe whom Ruth lived with, Melissa (Ed) Cooper of New Marshfield, and Stacie (Mike) Blevins of Logan; several much loved grandchildren and great grandchildren including Ruth’s “Little Nurses”, Trenton Lutz, Hayden Lutz, Gracie Saunders, and Jadelyn Saunders; brothers, Robert “Bob’ Coakley of Lancaster and Howard (Jackie) Coakley of Paulding, Ohio; sisters, Mary Grippi, Ethel Mae Wright of Logan, and Kay (Jack) Adams of Logan; and nieces and nephews.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; Kenneth Newlun and Ruth (Gilbert) Pancake; former husband and father of her daughters, Carl Cunningham; grandparents, Webster Newlun, Stella Penny Newlun, Lukey and Madge Johnson; brothers, Kenneth V. “Unk” Newlun, Jerry Newlun, Leonard Newlun, and John “John Boy” Newlun; and sister, Betty Herres.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, March 19, 2025, at the Souers-Cardaras Funeral Home, 46 Fayette St, Nelsonville, with Pastor Tim Kelly officiating. Interment will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, Nelsonville. Family and friends may visit from 4 to 7 pm Tuesday at the funeral home.
