Ruth Daugherty Obituary
Ruth Ellen (Boo) Daugherty passed away surrounded by family in her residence at the Garlands in Barrington, IL on Thursday, December 14.
Boo is survived by her children Carol (husband Tom) Egan, Charles Jr. (Buzz), Kathy, and Bob (wife Rachel Edelstein); her grandchildren Tom Egan (wife Shannon), Patrick Egan (wife Amanda), Kasia Wawer (husband Chris Novak), and Kristen Wawer; and her great-grandchildren Jaidyn, Jaxson, Jace, Josie Egan, baby Ross Egan (due in April 2023), and Ismaela Wawer-Diouf.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Charles Everett Daugherty in 1994, and her daughter-in-law Susan Bradley in 2018.
Born in Oak Park, Illinois on July 8, 1925, to Helen Buescher and Casper Oscar (CO) Borgmeier, Boo grew up surrounded by her aunts, uncles, and cousins and spent summers visiting relatives on farms in central Indiana. After graduating from Oak Park High School in 1943, she attended DePauw University and joined the Alpha Chi Omega Sorority. Boo's sorority sisters arranged a blind date with Chuck Daugherty. Boo married Chuck in 1947 shortly after graduating. They took Route 66 to Los Angeles to begin their life together. Boo and Chuck returned to Illinois and built a home on "the lot closest to Chicago that we could afford" in Inverness, where they raised four children and made great friends at Inverness Golf Club. Boo and Chuck traveled the world together, visiting Europe, Africa, and most of North America. They frequently golfed on their trips and spent winters in Cape Coral, Florida, becoming members of Palmetto Pines Country Club. Boo loved nature, reading, golf, playing bridge, and traveling. Boo's smile and graciousness will be missed by many.
Visitation will be held Saturday, December 16, 2023 from 2:00 p.m. until the Prayer Service at 3:00 p.m. at Davenport Family Funeral Home, 149 W. Main St. Barrington, IL. 60010.
Her final resting place after cremation will be next to Chuck in the Memorial Wall at the Barrington United Methodist Church.
Memorials can be made to the Barrington United Methodist Church, 98 Algonquin Road, Barrington, Illinois; or The Nature Conservancy, preserve.nature.org.
