Ruth Roark Dawn, age 87, of Corbin, KY, passed away on Saturday, May 24, 2025, at U.K. Bluegrass Hospice Center in Lexington, KY.
Born in Corbin, she was the daughter to the late Forester and Katherine Roark. Ruth was a dedicated and supportive wife, mother, and grandmother, Ruth's love for her family was the cornerstone of her existence, the life-force that drove her every action and decision.
Ruth's passion extended well beyond her family circle. She found immense joy in the simple pleasures of life, such as tending to her beloved flower garden and immersing herself in the excitement of football and baseball games. A devoted fan of the Bengals and Reds, Ruth's cheers echoed through every game. However, it was Russell Wilson who had a special place in her heart, captivating her with his sportsmanship and skill.
Ruth's commitment to her faith was evident in her active participation in the West Corbin Baptist Church. A loving and compassionate member of her congregation, Ruth formed lasting friendships and found solace in her spiritual journey.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, William G. Dawn; and by three brothers, and two sisters.
She is survived by her children, Barry Dawn, Anita Messer, Dana Gidley, and Kathena Young; 10 grandchildren and great grandchildren; sister, Wanda Roark Stephens; and brother, Charles Roark.
Visitation will be held from 12:30-2 pm on Thursday, May 29, 2025, at Vankirk-Grisell Funeral Home, where her funeral service will follow at 2 pm on Thursday, with Rev. Albert Jones officiating.
Burial will follow in Pine Hill Cemetery in Corbin, KY.
