Ruth Verona Eide (Kilness), age 95, died peacefully at Dove Healthcare in Osseo on March 23. She was born the youngest of seven children on September 11, 1929 to Otis and Emma (Pederson) Kilness in Lookout, WI.
She is survived by her sons, John (Susan) and Peter (Tina); grandchildren, Amelia Bauer, Emma and Noah Eide. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul, in 2016; parents, Otis and Emma; brothers, Wilmer, Raynold, Norman, Homer and Sherman; and sister, Evelyn (Moats).
Ruth grew up on the Kilness family farm in Lookout, WI, was baptized November 13, 1929 and confirmed June 25, 1944 at Evanger Lutheran Church. She graduated from Gilmanton High School in 1947. After high school she worked at National Pressure Cooker and was a medical secretary at Luther Hospital in Eau Claire.
Ruth married Paul Eide November 23, 1960 at Grace Lutheran Church in Eau Claire. She moved to the Eide family farm in Strum where she ran the family, house and farm for the next 65 years.
She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Strum - active in the church choir, altar guild, quilting, Bible study circle, and ladies aid. Also worked at Strum Hardware and was Town of Unity clerk for 16 years. An avid baker and cook, she was famous for her hot dishes and desserts, spending much money on sending mixed nut bars to her grandchildren across the country.
Paul and Ruth bowled for many years in a couple's league in Independence, golfed together at the Viking Golf Course in Strum and enjoyed many golf outings with close friends.
Ruth was an avid sports spectator, following the Eleva-Strum Cardinals, Badgers, Packers, Brewers and Bucks.
We would like to thank the staff at Dove Healthcare for the care of our mom for the past year.
Memorial service will be held at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Strum on Saturday April 5 at 11 a.m. Visitation will be held prior at 9 a.m. until time of service. Burial will take place immediately following at St. Paul's Cemetery in Strum.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Immanuel Lutheran Church organ fund. Cremation Society of Wisconsin, Altoona is assisting the family. Online condolences may be shared at cremationsociety-wi.com.
