Ruth L. Burchfield Emerson, at the age of 90, passed from this earthly life. While we feel sadness in our loss, we also rejoice knowing she is now with her Lord and Savior.
Ruth was born to Mollie and Thomas Burchfield on March 19, 1935. In 1951, Ruth married Billy Hugh Emerson, son of Willie and Ima Emerson. They made their home in the Sharman community in Taylor, Arkansas. Together they loved and raised their three children, Barry, Scott, and Gay. Ruth went to cosmetology school and operated a country beauty shop in her home for many years.
Ruth enjoyed working in her flower gardens, painting with oils and acrylics, creating beautiful porcelain dolls from start to finish, a variety of arts and crafts, and quilting with the ladies at Unity Methodist Church. She could cook and serve a wonderful meal and canned lots of jars of vegetables for her family. Ruth enjoyed the beauty of a garden or a flower and took time to appreciate what God had created for her to enjoy.
Ruth is survived by her son Scott Emerson and wife Pam of Taylor, Arkansas; daughter Gay Lewis and her husband Rickey of Gladewater, Texas; grandchildren, Tama Carter (Chris), Mindy Howe (Chris), Concetta Murphy (Charlie), Andy Emerson, Crystal Hargraves (Jake), Molly Riley (J.D.), Misty Coker (Steve), and Katy Bradford (Jan Michael); 15 great grandchildren; and 4 great great grandchildren.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son Barry; brothers, Warren Burchfield, Eldridge (Bo) Burchfield; and sisters, Florence Godwin and Clara Langley.
Ruth was known as a woman who loved her Lord, loved her family and loved people. She was creative, compassionate, beautiful on the inside and out, and will be missed by all.
Funeral services will be Monday, September 22, 2025, at 10:00 am at Unity Methodist Church with Rev. Carol Moore officiating under the direction of Lewis Funeral Home, Inc, in Magnolia with burial to follow at Sharman Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be Sunday evening from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Andy Emerson, Brady Simmons, Bart Emerson, Jake Hargraves, Chris Carter, and Jan Michael Bradford.
In memory of Ruth, memorial donations may be made to Unity Methodist Church, Smile Train (PO Box 96231, Washington, DC 20090-6231 or smiletrain.org), or the Sharman Cemetery Fund.
