WATERBURY, CT – It is with profound sadness that the family of Ruth Cecelia (Fallstrom) Flaherty 103 years young, widow of Martin J. Flaherty Jr., announce her peaceful passing on January 29, 2025 after a brief illness at Cheshire House in Waterbury CT.  

Ruth was born on September 22, 1921 in Shrewsbury MA the daughter of the late Joseph and Myrtice Powell Fallstrom. Her family moved to Waterbury CT in 1937, next-door to Martin who became the love of her life. They were married for 75 years until Martin passed away at the age of 100. Ruth worked at many places in the Waterbury area including: The YMCA, Timex, Benrus and Sherwood Medical. Ruth and Martin volunteered countless hours at Sts Peter and Paul Church and the American Legion in Wolcott. Ruth’s family has profound gratitude for the time they had together, the love they shared, and memories achieved. She and her husband enjoyed a long and blessed life together through the support of many friends and family. Ruth was a loving and caring person who had many friends and neighbors who appreciated her warm sense of humor, generosity and dedication to her community.  She was exceptional in almost every way but she excelled the most at being a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and most especially Aunt to so many loving nieces and nephews of many generations. She will be sadly missed by all who were blessed to know and love her.  

Ruth was predeceased by her children: Thomas, Mark and Gale, and her brothers: Joseph, Norman, Lawrence, David, Sister Margie and Nephew, Jamie Fallstrom. She is survived by her granddaughter; Shawyn (Persichelli) Allen and her husband Corey from GA and her 3 children, and her 7 grandchildren. her sister, Gale Fallstrom Cellucci of Panama. Nieces and Nephews include: Angela (Nick) Addivinola, Maine, Anne Flaherty, California, Mary Ellen Nyberg (Mark), Massachusetts, Miguel Cellucci, Panama, Larry (Cindi) Fallstrom, Prospect, Michael Fallstrom, Tennessee, Kerry (Lori) Flaherty  East Granby, Greg (Kathy) Flaherty, Maryville, Tennessee. Great Nieces and Nephews: Lucas Addivinola, Kari (Tom) Gray, Marc Fallstrom, Mason (Kaylee) Fallstrom, Michael (Jaime) Flaherty, Meghan (Jared) Smith, Matthew Flaherty, Finnian Flaherty, Jaime (Charlie) Newland-Corbin, Jennie Pratt, Melissa (Joe) Mearn and Kaley (Jason) Collier. Great Great Nieces and Nephews: Avery and Aiden Gray, Liam Fallstrom, Piper and Brewer Flaherty, Marley and Harper Molcyk, Hudson and Easton Smith, Mason Newland, Tessa Travali, Jordyn Alford, Avery and Reagan Mearn and Maddie and Nathan Collier. 

Ruth’s family wishes to acknowledge and thank from the bottom of their hearts; Bill and Rachel Graham, and her caregivers Martha, Mahnu, Sandra, Mia, Gale and the staff at Cheshire House for the care and love they shared with both Ruth and her family during her illness. 

Funeral services for Mrs. Flaherty will be held on Tuesday, February 4, 2025 at 10:30 a.m. from Casey’s Eastside Memorial Funeral Home and Cremation Care 1987 East Main St Waterbury CT 06705 to Mary Mother of the Church Parish, St Leo the Great Church 14 Bentwood Dr Waterbury CT 06705 to celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery. Relatives and friends may pay their respects and visit with the Flaherty family from 9:30 am until 10:30 am at the funeral home. To honor Ruth’s memory and in lieu of flowers, donations to: ORTV - Father John Gatzak, 15 Peach Orchard Rd., Prospect, Conn., 06712 would be greatly appreciated by her family.
