Ruth Turner Gaines, 81, passed away, Wednesday, July 24, 2024.
She was born March 12, 1943 in Nelson County, Virginia to the late Governor and Rosa Belle Fitch Turner. Ruth accepted Christ at an early age and was a member of Oak Hill Baptist Church. She worked at Wintergreen Resort for 29 years. Her favorite sayings were "hello baby" and "I love you". She loved to eat crab legs and play bingo, but most of all she loved her family and always put them above all else.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Marilyn Jones, two brothers, Governor Woodson Turner and Thomas Turner, a sister, Viola Turner and a great-grandson, Josiah Jones.
Those left to cherish her memory are her husband, James Gaines Sr.; her children, daughters, Lula Rose of Bristow, VA and Celeste Gaines of Lynchburg, VA; her sons, John Jones (JoAnn) and Karlos Jones of Lynchburg, VA; one brother, Thomas Turner (Ameena); ten sisters, Rosa Carroll, Elaine Turner (Clarence), Alma Epps, Dorothy Legree (Harry), Gertrude Turner, Esther Turner, Yolanda Turner, Gwendolyn Turner, Patricia Turner (Gerald), Patricia Williams; 17 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and a host of step-children, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held on August 5, 2024, at 1:00 pm at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg, also visitation will be one hour prior to service.
Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Lynchburg, is assisting the family.
