Skyvue Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens - MansfieldRuth Elizabeth Garvey was called to her heavenly home on Friday, September 12, 2025, at the age of 61.
Ruth was born in Laredo, Texas, on April 30, 1964, to Justo Cruz Aldrete and Ruth Soberon Blake. She was raised in her hometown of Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas, Mexico.
Her education consisted of Antonio Moreno Gonzalez Primary School in Mexico, Class of 1976; Juan Ruiz de Alarcon Secondary School in Mexico, Class of 1979; Holding Institute in Laredo, Texas, September 1979 – May 1981; Thomas Jefferson High School in San Antonio, Texas, Class of 1983; studied at Laredo Community College, Class of 1999, where she received her Associate Degree in Arts; studied at Texas A&M International University, Class of 2001, where she achieved her Bachelor Degree in Psychology; Social Work Training 2003 – 2014.
Ruth was such a giving person with a pure soul that was totally dedicated to helping children. She had 12 years of experience working with children and families through CPS; Seven years of supervisory experience; experience in court testimony; interviewing children; working with diverse populations in stressful situations; effective leadership skills; strong oral and written communication skills; Bilingual in English and Spanish. She worked for Child Protective Services for the counties of Johnson, Hood, Somervell, Parker and Tarrant. Her passion and her job highlights is that she investigated reports of abuse/ neglect to children; Expert in assessing risk to children; Court Testimony including developing Court Reports and Service Plans; Completed home studies for perspective relatives; Experienced with child placement including adoption; Legal Liason and developing working relationships within legal community in 1996-1998; Identified, utilized and developed excellent working relationships with the community; Facilitator with Family Group Conferencing; Responded effectively to complex situations; Developed a working understanding of the Texas Family Code; Public Speaking along with numerous lives helped during her career.
Ruth met Gary Garvey in 2010, and married him July 7, 2018, in Laredo, Texas. They spent so much time living life together to the fullest whether it was traveling, visiting beaches where she just loved to soak in the sun’s rays or be under an umbrella. They attended concerts, comedy shows such as Katt Williams, Ron White and others. She enjoyed trying new restaurants and just enjoying life. Ruth absolutely loved flowers, the more, the better. She would constantly send flowers to others to show her affection and thoughtfulness.
Ruth is preceded in death by her father, Justo Cruz Aldrete.
Ruth was such a giving person and that legacy will live on in those that are left to cherish her memory, her survivors including her loving Husband, Gary Garvey; mother, Ruth Soberon Blake; sisters, Rebeca Cruz Soberon, Leonora C. Abastta; brothers, Justo Cruz Soberon; nephews, Blake Barraza Cruz, Aldo Abastta, Alejandro Cruz, Sebastian Cruz, Jude Cruz, Isaias Cruz; nieces, Nina D. Abastta, Kara Abastta; along with numeous other loving family and friends that will miss her dearly.
