Ruth Anna Gerling, age 93, formerly of Chicago, Forest View and Plainfield, passed away Jan. 13, 2014, in Libertyville. She was born July 17, 1920 in Chicago to Mathias and Anna (Hijdich) Scherer. On October 24, 1941 she married Joseph Gerling at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in Chicago.
She attended St. Alphonse Clerical Career School where she learned secretarial duties. Ruth was a homemaker the majority of her life raising her family and then enjoying her grandchildren.
She is survived by two sons, Thomas (Celeste) Gerling, Arthur Gerling; grandchildren, Yvonne Gerling, Yvette (Michael) Judkins, Victoria (Mark) Matherly, Arhur Gerling; great grandchildren, Robert (Diana) Foehring, Thomas Zack, Arthur J. Gerling, Michael Judkins, Alexander Lumpp, Joshua Judkins; great great-grandchildren, Leonie and Drake; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Joseph in 1994; her parents; a brother, Mathias Scherer; and a sister, Vivian Humbard.
Visitation Thursday, Jan. 16, from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Justen’s Round Lake Funeral Home, 222 W. North Rosedale Court, Round Lake, IL 60073.
Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 17, at the funeral home.
Interment will be in All Saints Cemetery, Des Plaines.
