Ruth Glasper Obituary

Published by King-Tears Mortuary, Inc. - Austin on Mar. 11, 2014.
On a special winter day of December 15, 1930, "Baby Ruth" Fowler was born to Willie Etta Fowler and David Fowler in Garfield, TX. After moving to Austin, TX, she attended Blackshear Elementary, Kealing Junior High School, and Anderson High School. Baby Ruth united in marriage to the late James Jones and in that union she gave birth to her only child – beautiful, loving daughter Janice Faye Jones. Ruth later married Douglas Glasper ("Grandpa Doug") of whom she stayed happily married to until his death. Baby Ruth ("Mama" as her grandkids called her) loved partying and fishing. She introduced her granddaughters to fishing at an early age. She was often seen with her favorite Aunt Lucille and Uncle Herman Wesley and her best friends Geneva and Ida Mae! Baby Ruth liked to give her granddaughters rabbits and baby chicks for Easter, she loved gardening and going "to the country" during the Spring to pick Poke Salad! Ruth accepted Christ as her Savior at Greater Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Austin, Texas at an early age. Ruth was employed by the Boyd family where she served the late Ms. Boyd and later Ms. Boyd's son - Charles and his family, Jane (wife), and daughter Karen Boyd. She often spoke of her "family" relationship with the Boyds' and how they treated her as if she was part of their family. She departed this life on March 11, 2014. She was preceded in death by her loving mother, Willie Etta Hill-Burdette, her father Leonard Fowler, her husband Douglas Glasper, and her brother Jimmy Crayton. She leaves to cherish her daughter, Janice Faye Sawyer; her stepdaughters, Diane Glasper and Patricia Glasper; her siblings Katheryn Hammond and Thurman Crayton; her grandchildren - Demetria (Jones) Fairley, Kimberly Jones, and Angela Green; her Great Grandchildren – Jason Jones, Carlton Fairley II, Brittney Fairley, Alea Ross, Adriane Fairley, Brandy Clack, Tyrone Williams; her Great Great Grandchildren – Jamarus Jones, Lalia Ross, and McKenzie Cooper; her nieces and nephews – Darrell Crayton, Dwight Crayton, Cynthia Crayton, Gloria Crayton, and Tiffany Crayton; and Great Nieces and Nephews – Treylin Crayton and Kristin Crayton. And a whole host of loving cousins, especially Rita Webster, Jimmy Hill, Jr., and Almus Hill. The family would like to give special recognition to her loving friend – Claudell Wright who provided loving companionship until the day she departed from us. And we would like to thank Hospice Austin – Irene, Mary, Nancy, Keith, and Chaplin Susan for providing loving care until her passing.
