Age 75, of Gainesville, passed away at her home on June 5, 2025.
She was born on March 28, 1950, in Warsaw, daughter of the late Elmer and Josephine Potter Billings Sr. Ruth was one of nine children in her family. She attended Perry Central School and graduated with the class of 1968. After high school, Ruth wed Richard J. Grasby Sr. in 1968 and they were married for forty-eight years until his passing in 2017. She was employed as a store clerk for much of her life and worked at Del’s IGA, the Gainesville General Store, and most recently, Save-A-Lot. Ruth liked to crochet and watch television, especially the Western genre. She also enjoyed playing online games and used to play Euchre with her husband in tournaments. Most of all though, Ruth loved the time she spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Along with her parents and husband, Ruth is predeceased by her in-laws, Donald and Dorothy Grasby.
She’s survived by her children, Veronica (Daniel) Forrester of Silver Springs, Cassandra (Randy) Reding of Silver Springs, Richard (Rhonna) Grasby Jr. of Mt Morris, Jessica Grasby of Gainesville; her sisters, Nancy (Karson) Heubusch, Norma (Doug) Rutherford, Donna (David) Grasby, Jean (Joe) Monteleone, Dora Spencer, Shirley (Joe) La Georgia; her brothers, Elmer (Debbie) Billings Jr., George Billings; her grandchildren, Justin (Ashley) Forrester, Joshua (Bridjett) Forrester, Victoria (Jason) Merrick, Cody (Amber) Shearer, Colin (Lindsey) Reding, Brittany (Glen) Haskins, Hannah Haskins, Jackie (Brock) Grasby, Audrie (Austin) Swinford, Nathan Tagg; 12 great-grandchildren with one on the way; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Friends may call on Tuesday, June 10, 2025 from 5-8 PM at Robinson and Hackemer Funeral Home, 246 N. Main St., Warsaw. Ruth’s funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, June 11, 2025 at 11 AM. Burial will take place in Maple Grove Cemetery, Gainesville.
