Mrs. Hilson, daughter of the late Gertrude McCoy Howell and William Howell, was born in Glascock County, GA, and was a lifelong resident of Mitchell. She attended Berry College and Georgia Teachers College receiving a Bachelor of Education. She devoted her life to education and retired as a teacher from the Glascock County School District after 36 years. Ruth loved gardening, playing the piano, cooking, traveling, and the company of others. Her greatest pastime was spending time with her family, especially her grand and great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband of 36 years, James Aaron (JA) Hilson; her brothers, Harvey Howell and James William Howell; and her sister, Dorothy Todd.

She is survived by her children: the twins, Earl Hilson of Martinez, and Sheryl Cloud (Ray) of Augusta; her grandchildren: Katherine Hilson (Matt) and Ross Hilson (Emily); and her great grandson, Ryan Hilson.

The family would like to express their deep admiration and gratitude to the management and staff at Thrive of Augusta and Enhabit Home Health and Hospice, for the care, dignity, and love shown to Ruth during her stay.
