Ruth Hoffman

Ruth Fajerman Hoffman was born in Föhrenwald, Germany, in a camp for displaced Holocaust survivors, to her late parents Esther and Lejzer Fajerman. As an infant, she immigrated to the United States with her family, including her brother Abe, and was raised in Landisville, New Jersey. She became a naturalized U.S. citizen at a young age and grew up as part of an extended Norma Beach family. Ruth attended CW Post and Glassboro State Teacher's College (now Rowan University). Ruth became a speech and drama teacher at Vineland High School, where she inspired generations of students.
After reconnecting with Daniel C. Hoffman upon his return to Vineland from Vietnam, Ruth and Dan married in 1973. They shared a devoted partnership until his passing in 2017. Together, they built a life rooted in love, resilience, and community.
Ruth is survived by her brother Jack Fajerman; her children, Michael Hoffman, Tamara (Tami) Hoffman Wirtheim, and Pamela Hoffman; her treasured grandchildren, Jaxy Hoffman, Billy Hoffman and Hope Wirtheim; her Aunt Ella Kanner; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family-not all by blood, but all deeply connected by love.
She will be remembered as the matriarch of her family-a partner, a parent, a sister, and a friend who brought people together. Ruth's sense of humor was her signature, worn stenciled on her sleeve, like the "Mother Trucker" on her Suburban. She had the rare gift for seeing the best in others and helping them become their best.
Ruth was a vital presence in the Jewish community of South Jersey, among the Children of Holocaust Survivors, and in numerous historical and cultural organizations. In her final years, as illness took its toll on her body, but never her spirit, she was lovingly cared for by Pam and Tami, whose devotion helped her have a peaceful passing, surrounded by love.
Shiva will be observed at the homes of her children.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Ruth's memory to Hadassah.
Friends and family will be welcomed on Sunday, June 8th from 10am to 11am followed by a funeral service at 11am from Rone Funeral Service, 1110 East Chestnut Avenue, Vineland. Interment will follow in Alliance Cemetery, Norma.
